I served up this ginger cherry white sangria at a baby shower that we threw last weekend, and it was so refreshing and delicious!
My friends Bonnie and Robert are two of my very favorite people in all of Atlanta, so when their adoption went through, Dave and I wanted to help throw their baby shower! We got together with some friends to plan it, and the party was over the weekend. I whipped up cupcakes and a savory snack and wanted to also serve a signature cocktail. After a lot of mulling it over I decided to make a cool white sangria for them.
Bonnie and Robert are adopting a baby from China. They go to pick him up at the end of August. If you’ve known anyone that’s gone through a foreign adoption, you know that it is a long, heart-wrenching process. It’s taken them years, and I can’t tell you how excited I am that baby Sebastian is coming home soon. I can’t wait to snuggle that babe!
Just under a week before the shower, I ran across this awesome infographic on how to make your own sangria recipe. I built my white sangria recipe by kinda sorta following this formula:
I’ve made sangria before, but coming up with a recipe from scratch was much easier with this little flowchart to help me out! I used lemonade as my “juice,” but if you like things more on the tart side, you can use 1/4 cup of lemon juice instead of the lemonade in the recipe below.
Ginger Cherry Lemonade White Sangria
I doubled this recipe for the shower, since we were expecting around 15-20 people. We had a few growlers of beer and a few bottles of wine on top of this, and there was more than enough for everyone to drink.
- 1 750mL bottle cheap white wine
- 1/4 cup rum
- 1 12 ounce bottle spicy ginger ale
- 1 cup prepared lemonade
- 1 10 ounce bag of frozen cherries
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced into half rounds
- Combine all of the liquids in a large pitcher or punch bowl, and stir well, Add the fruit, and stir again to gently combine. Serve chilled over ice with an appropriately cute straw!
