I thought I’d posted my trusty granola recipe before, but when I went back to look for it yesterday it was nowhere to be found! Luckily, I just whipped up a fresh batch of granola, and it came out deliciously!
I used almonds and dried cranberries, but pretty much any combination of nuts and fruit would work well. Cashew and apricot! Pumpkin seeds and dried cherries! Mixing up flavors is easy and fun.

Since I’ve got this show on the brain, I thought I’d round up a few of the amazing crafters who are going to be there.

This week has been crazy insane. Between getting ready for Grant Park Summer Shade and my writing obligations, there hasn’t been time for elaborate cooking. Luckily, I discovered this super fast method for making tostadas that doesn’t heat up the whole house with the oven.

I was lucky enough to meet Esther of Paragraph Cove while I was out in Portland for the Summit of Awesome. She was selling at a market near the Summit, and I was pretty much smitten with her wares right away!

I hope you guys can make it out for some shopping, food, drink, and a stroll at the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival!
I’ve been sewing like mad, whipping up new goodies for the show, including a brand new line of organic hemp manly lunch totes lined with reclaimed fabrics! I’ll also have copies of Lunch Bags! available for sale, if you locals want to pick yourself up a copy and save on shipping.
Check out the vendor list…it’s huge! I’m going to have a hard time not spending everything I make at this show.
Here’s a map to the park, in case you need help finding it:

Shrimp and grits is sort of a Southern brunchy staple, and I have to admit it’s something I miss. I tried making tofu and grits, using tofu seasoned with some Old Bay, and it was good but wasn’t quite hitting the spot.
I decided that rather than try to approximate this dish I’d take it in a whole different direction that still has that good combination of textures but was Southern in a whole different way.

My pal Lisa emailed recently about swag:
This summer I’ve gone to more than my fair share of special events/street festivals/conferences and picked up some free promotional item (called SWAG by the PR folks. It means Stuff We All Get) only to get it home and think, “Why did I say yes to yet another tote bag/t-shirt/whatever when I really could use a tote bag/t-shirt/whatever”? I know I have.
Instead of tossing it, I used my super special crafty powers to cover up that big ol’ logo on that free tote bag and turned it into something I want to carry around town or at least to the dog park.
She’s encouraging folks to do the same and post about it on our blogs for her Remake Your Swag party over at Condo Blues on the 22nd!
I’m so glad she’s organizing this! I actually had a swag-related project that I’d been putting off, and this was just the motivation I needed to get to it.
