Last night, Christy, Brian and I had our joint birthday party. The theme was Enchantment Under the Sea. It was amazing. Completely amazing! The party started at 8, and we decided to start things off with all the lights out to celebrate Earth Hour. It was really sort of awesome! The room was all lit up by candlelight.

Our friend Ally went all out. She brought face painting supplies! And giant, undersea-creature balloons! Amy made us all headpieces with our favorite underwater creatures on them! My sort of sideways pose in this picture was to show off the seahorse headband she made. Fantastical!

Obviously, my contribution was cupcakes. I made chocolate cupcakes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and modified their buttercream frosting recipe to make an orange-flavored frosting. Brian picked up blue food coloring and SHARKFIN CUPCAKE TOPPERS. The only downside to orange frosting that is blue in color is that a lot of folks were really confused by their first bite of cupcake. Several people asked me what flavor the frosting was. But! Look how amazingly they turned out:

In conclusion, if being 29 is anywhere near as fun as this party was, it’s going to be a super-rad year.
