Something to be Looked After
Posted by Becky under News

I was listening to an interview with David Mitchell where he was talking about working with his longtime partner. There was a little portion of the interview that really struck me:
“…we sort of felt from the first that when we perform together and when we write together we’re kind of greater than the sum of our parts[...]and I think when you find something like that…we felt it something to be looked after.”
It made me feel really thankful for my involvement with Atlanta Craft Mafia. I think that was the kick in the pants I needed to really get to the heart of what’s important to me and where I want my crafty life to head. It got me thinking about the bigger picture and how I can use the skills I’ve acquired over years of preparing for events and festivals to really make a difference.
Unfortunately, I don’t see myself able to make the impact I want to within that group. The lovely ladies of the Atlanta Craft Mafia have a vision for where the group is headed that doesn’t really hit on the issues that are closest to my heart. Building Atlanta’s crafty community is definitely important to me, but there is an environmental component to my beliefs that are just not a good fit within ACM’s vision.
Just as I came into my crafty life as an outlet for creative energy that my work life was not fulfilling, SuperCute! has become the outlet for my activist energy that ACM is just not able to address right now. When Liz, Lori and I talk about our ideas and plans and passions, I feel that click. I feel that something to be looked after.
