This weekend, we headed up to North Carolina to visit Liz and our baby nephews! The plan was to work at their Halloween store for a few hours, but we somehow ended up at an antiques mall instead! It is really hard to explain to a two-year-old that he can’t bang on the very, very old piano. My solution was to wheel the stroller away from the piano as fast as I safely could.

Liz and Robbie's house

Liz lives in a gorgeous house just outside of town. Their property is surrounded by woods. They frequently have deer hanging out around the woodsy part of their land. On Saturday, Donnie was telling me that he thought the deer had probably eaten all of the persimmons. Wait, what?? Persimmons?? Growing?? Here? Obviously, we had to go see if there were any left. I love a persimmon. Dave, my nephew and I headed out to the persimmon tree to see what we could see. It looks like the deer did get most of the low-hanging ones, but we were able to get a few by using a combination of a golf club and me holding my baby nephew up as high as I could. He was really into picking persimmons, though not so much into eating them. We ended up with only two that were ripe enough. Here I am with my proud haul:

We spent the rest of our trip hanging out with the family. Dave’s folks came up with some boxes for him and Liz to go through. They were full of old school work from both of them: stories, artwork and so on.

Oooh and on the way home, I came up with a handmade Christmas gift idea that a bunch of folks might be getting! Eee! I can’t wait to get sewing!

We were bummed, too! We did get to walk around a bit, but I really wanted to work security or something! Maybe next year.

See you at ICE in just a few weeks!!

Very nice post – looks like they have amazing land, which is pretty hard to come by in Asheville these days! I don’t know how far of a drive it is for you, but it sounds like it might be pretty close. If you are looking to take more weekend trips to the area, you might be interested in our blog about the Asheville area and our vacation rentals. Take care!
