Majestic Gate
[I think I was trying to mimic the majestic unicorn and lion on the gate.]

We’re home from a whole week in London! We ate so well all week! I was struck by how sensitive restaurants are to vegetarians there. Every place had veg. options. It was a little trickier to eat vegan there, but really not too bad. There are noodle and falafel places at every turn, and we also found a vegan Asian buffet and a couple of really delicious all vegetarian restaurants. Folks kept telling us that the food in London is terrible. I don’t know where they were eating, but we found delicious food for under £10 all over the place! We also had blue skies for the vast majority of our time there!

Winter Weather
[Most of the days were like this - cold, but blue and clear.]

It felt like we did a million things every day! We visited the Tate Modern, British Museum, British Library to see the Magna Carta, Royal Observatory at Greenwich and a ton of other places with names ending in “seum.” One of my favorite places was this creaky old attic which housed an old operating theatre and herb garret. There were cases full of old medical equipment and creepy jarred organs and dried medicinal herbs with descriptions of their uses. I don’t know why I’m drawn to things like that, but I guess I am!

While we were there, I also ended up needing a doctor. I’d rather not get into specifics. I’ll just say that I am totally fine and completely in awe of the UK’s health care system. The walk-in clinic visit was completely free, and the antibiotics they gave me were only £7. I wonder what it would have cost a British visitor to the US for the same care. It was a bummer that I couldn’t warm up with a glass of red for the second half of the week, but I did manage to drink plenty of Schweppe’s Bitter Lemon and eat lots of hot noodle soups.

I kept a list in my Slingshot of where we went, what we ate, and what we drank each day, but I’m sure you’re not into the gritty minute-by-minute details of our trip. You can check out pictures in my London 2008 Flickr album here!

This morning I made blueberry pancakes, which is sort of becoming our standard weekend breakfast. The rest of today is all about sewing for the upcoming hand.craft.it handmade market, writing, and working on my top secret project! More details on that when I have it all sorted out! It might be a while, but I got the bones of it together this week while we were away. My planner is full of sketches and scribbles that I need to weed through.
