Castleberry Hill Art Stroll
Last night, some friends and I hit up the Art Stroll in Castleberry Hill!

I have to admit that the picture above is not from last night – I took a few pictures but felt a little weird about snapping photos in a gallery.
The Castleberry Hill area is just west of downtown Atlanta and holds the Stroll on the fourth Friday of each month. Last night’s weather was just perfect for gallery hopping! We hit up a bunch of places, and I definitely want to go again in February. My favorite gallery was one where they were displaying pieces by a five- and a seven-year-old pair of siblings: Storm and James Wright. How awesome is that? The kids were so proud. James showed Kip and Dave his favorite piece – a sculpture that took him a whole day to make and “five minutes to paint.” Here’s Storm showing off some of her art:

We also stumbled upon Art House Co-op and got to check out their Scavenger and Timeline Projects! My favorite part of the Scavenger Project was a row of large, glass jars on the windowsill. Each jar was tagged with things like “buttons” and “wrappers.” Folks were encouraged to contribute doodads from their pockets and purses! For whatever reason, I had a clothespin in my purse, which I filed under “buttons.” Seeing some of those jars brimming with bits of paper and whatnot really made me think about how much waste we collect that doesn’t even register. All that small stuff really adds up!

By the time we hit the last gallery, I was a bit on the groggy side. I wish I could remember its name or the artist’s! They had a huge mural-sized piece that they were encouraging visitors to add on to. The artist also had a huge piece painted on vintage-looking fabric, and he was wearing a scarf made of the remnants! On the opposite wall, he had a series of interpretations on Shel Silverstein, like Hug of War and Where the Sidewalk Ends! It was a great, nostalgic note to end a really fun evening.
