Spicy Tofu Wingz
Yesterday, we had a giganto Pisces party in Piedmont Park to celebrate all of our fabulous fishy friends. After a day in the sun gabbing and drinking sangria, I wanted something….well. I wanted something greasy and completely unhealthy. Tofu wingz to the rescue!

These are really easy to make, and are, of course, perfect dipped in Cucumber Ranch.
Tofu Wingz
- 1 block extra firm tofu
- 1/4c Siracha (or your favorite) hot sauce
- 1/4c oil for frying
You would not believe how tough a time I had describing this first part. The idea is to get perfect little tofu triangles. Cut the tofu block in half, so that you have two giant cubes of tofu. Then, cut each cube into four slices. Cut each of those slices diagonally, so you end up with 16 triangular wingz.
Toss the tofu in the Siracha sauce, coating both sides really well. If you like things spicier, you can up the hot sauce.
We’re ready to fry! Heat the oil over medium in a big frying pan, and cook the tofu for about 5 minutes on each side. You’ll want each side browned pretty well. Transfer the finished wingz to a plate using a slotted spatula so you’re not spooning all of the oil onto the plate with them.
Eat up! I had this with a side of fried okra for maximum unhealthiness. Most people would probably opt for something like a light salad to balance things out a bit.

Speaking of fried, I’ve got a snack we need to figure out how to recreate. A vendor at last year’s Texas State Fair was serving fried guacamole. All sorts of unhealthy, I’m sure, but it sure sound tasty.
Oh, I wouldn’t call those completely unhealthy!

@Dave – YES!! I think we could probably do this really easily! Maybe whizz some Tofutti cream cheese with the guac to give it a little more structure? Let’s hatch a plan!
Rob – Maybe not pre-Cucumber Ranch dipping, but certainly if you factor in the amount I used. :P
