Video Tutorial: Ladder Stitch by Leslie Bonnell
I saw this ladder stitch tutorial on CRAFT a while back, and it was so helpful that I thought I’d post it here, too! Leslie Bonnell does a really clear, easy to follow tutorial on this awesome invisible stitch for closing things like pillows and softies:
It took about three or four viewings to fully get what was going on here, but now I’ve totally got the hang of this handy stitch! I love the terms she uses to explain things, like telling you to start the next stitch “across the street” from the previous one. I want to hunt around for more sewing tutorials from her!

Lunch Bags! The Book!

Thanks for the video. I want to look her up too!
I am like your sewing opposite. I’ve been doing this stitch since I was a kid and could do it in my sleep, but I am TERRIBLE with a machine! Like, I cannot figure out for the life of me how to put a liner for a purse on with a machine, so I end up using this “ladder” hand stitch above.
This video taught my wife on how to be patience, doing like this is not an easy task, you need to a lots of trying until you make this thing presentable.
Indeed! It took me a little time and a bit of cussing before I had that moment where it all came together.
Thanks, I’ve been doing this stitch since I was a little kid, we called it double invisible seam. I never knew how to hide the knot, thanks for sharing that.
