Vegan MOFO: The Survey

I don’t usually go for surveys around here, but Kim posted this Vegan MOFO survey that’s been going around over on her blog, and I thought I’d give it a whirl! Here we gooooooooooooooooo!
1. Favorite non-dairy milk?
Almond! No question.
2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?
Oooh this is hard to say, since my cooking is so dictated by what comes in the Vegetable Husband basket!
3. Topping of choice for popcorn?
Nutritional. YEAST.
4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure?
I haven’t had that many cooking disasters! There was the great cupcake implosion of 2008, but I try to put that behind me.
5. Favorite pickled item?
I love sweet pickles! And those lovely Japanese ones.
6. How do you organize your recipes?
I’ve got a few shelves in the livingroom for cookbooks. I sort of lean towards the freestyle cooking, though, so recipes are more like jumping off points most of the time.
7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal?
Compost. We’re saving up for a fancy bin to get this under control. Our current compost situation is….not pretty.
8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods…what would they be (don’t worry about how you’ll cook them)?
sushi, cupcakes, avocados
9. Fondest food memory from your childhood?
When we needed a quick, cheap meal, my pops would make baked beans and eggs with toast. Now, I make baked beans, tofu scramble, and toast whenever I want some simple comfort food.
10. Favorite vegan ice cream?
I was actually surprised to discover that Green Tea Soy Deliclious totally rocked my socks! Those So Delicious chocolate and almond covered bars are pretty fantastical, too!
11. Most loved kitchen appliance?
Ohman, can I do my top three? My rice cooker, the crock pot, and our Magic Bullet
12. Spice/herb you would die without?
herbes de Provence (Is that cheating?)
13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time?
The Moosewood Cookbook by Molly Katzen
14. Favorite flavor of jam/jelly?
fig
15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend?
cupcakes!
16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh?
Tofu for the day to day, tempeh for topping salads, and seitan if I deserve a special treat!
17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)?
I really love making an elaborate dinner, when there’s time to do it. Something with side dishes and a nice dessert. Some variation of mashed potatoes would definitely be involved.
18. What is sitting on top of your refrigerator?
Boxes of cereal, the blender I never use, and some really big soup pots.
19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking.
Frozen mango, dumpling wrappers, coffee.
20. What’s on your grocery list?
bananas, almond milk, avocados, tofu, brown rice, fake cheese, pasta. The rest comes from Veg Hub and is a weekly surprise!
21. Favorite grocery store?
Your Deklab Farmers Market
22. Name a recipe you’d love to veganize, but haven’t yet.
My mom’s artichoke Parmesan dip. It would probably be easy, but it’s her signature pot luck dish….it has to be perfect! OK, really it’s Kraft’s artichoke Parm dip.
23. Food blog you read the most (besides Isa’s because I know you check it everyday). Or maybe the top 3?
I’m gonna go with Kim’s answer: See my blogroll.
24. Favorite vegan candy/chocolate?
Whole Foods truffles. It’s about that time of year again, too!
25. Most extravagant food item purchased lately?
The vegetable plate at Meskrem in DC. I <3 Ethiopian food!
26. Ingredients you are scared to work with?
Egg replacer. I don’t trust it!
