Phish NYE 2009 in Moments
A few folks asked how the show was, and I feel like this video from just after midnight sums things up nicely:
The view in the video above isn’t too far off from where our seats were…maybe a couple of sections over. They had hundreds of balloons suspended in nets above the crowd and dropped them at midnight. I danced until my feet hurt and then kept dancing; it was impossible to stop.
There were so many fantastical moments, but the one that got me the most was Rock and Roll>Piper. Rock and Roll is a cover of an old Velvet Underground song, and Piper is probably my favorite Phish song. They were the two songs I was hoping to hear, and they played one right into the other! (I know, Tim is right – it’s better not to have a wish list, but sometimes I can’t help it!)
While they were winding down Rock and Roll, I leaned to Dave and said, “It would bode really well for 2010 if they went into Piper.” I got my wish! Unfortunately, no one seems to have posted these on Youtube, but if I run across it, I’ll be sure to put it up here, in case anyone is interested.
Other amazing moments:
- Dave jumping up and down when they played Tela, a song they haven’t played in (I think) 12 years.
- Fishman giving away his vacuum to Rich, a random fellow from the crowd
- Of course, Fishman climbing into a giant disco ball and getting fired out of a cannon.
- The awesome patio where they played old Phish shows between sets.
- Finding out that the American Airlines Arena is LEED certified! (I know, I’m totally nerdy.)
- Eating leftover Subway sandwiches in the hotel with my husband after two mind-blowing nights of music.
I feel like new years eve is so often full of special moments. Folks get nostalgic and maybe have too many cocktails. Sometimes hilarity ensues. Did you guys have any favorite new years eve moments?

Lunch Bags! The Book!

Those shows were SO MUCH fun. I think the breakout I was most excited for was Deman, I have always wanted to hear that! But my favorite of the whole thing was the Boogie On>Antelope with th Frankensterin encore. It was RAGING!
Ohman, Boogie On>Antelope was amazing. Aaah and how could I forget about Frankenstein! I think I screamed my throat sore when he busted out that keytar!
totally, I love th keytar
Did you hit up all 4 nights? Dave and I could only make it to two, unfortunately.
Yes, we went to all 4 but the last 2 were definately the best!
