I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the kind words about Nani Dorothy’s passing. The funeral was really lovely. It was great to have the family and so many old friends together, and we shared stories and memories about my grandmother and that whole generation of our family.

For the eulogy, my pops told stories about the old neighborhood in New York where they grew up, and my sister and I shared a list of lessons we’d learned from our grandmother. Some of the stories were funny or poked a little fun, but we all went into it with the belief that funerals should be about remembering the things that make you smile, not dwelling on doom and gloom. My favorite lesson on the list was probably:

“Pink wine goes with every meal. In summer, add ice.”

We picked up a bottle of Nani’s favorite white zinfandel and had a toast for her the next evening. I think she would have loved it.

There were sad moments too, of course, but in the end we’re glad that she’s finally at peace. Thank you guys so much for keeping us in your thoughts – it meant a lot to have that kind of support.
