5 Questions With Paper Disciple

Djordje, proprietor of Paper Disciple, makes beautiful origami art pieces out of reclaimed paper. I love the use of old maps and other ephemera!
1. Tell me about how you got started crafting.
I started origami in kindergarten. I had a couple of really rad teachers that made it look fun, and from there I got an almost OCD level of interest in it. Much later I realized someone would actually give me money in exchange for folded paper. I wish I could do a Rocky-esque montage of me training, but watching someone fold origami is parallel to watching paint dry. The results are very pretty, though.
2. What draws you to eco-friendly materials?
The feel. Most eco-friendly paper feels different from, say, a Xerox A4 sheet. I guess the closest comparison is like touching vinyl or polyester for a long time and then switching to pure cotton.

3. What inspires you?
Real life. Anywhere you look, if you just wait for five minutes, you can see something that is so entrancing and fascinating, to the right eye. An anthill is a mound of dirt to one person; a hive of activity to another.
The other source of inspiration is an approaching deadline. The less time you have, the more you can do.
4. Who are your crafty heroes?
My personal heroes are TheMidnightOrange, creaturesfromel, and TanjaSova.
Dana from MidnightOrange is a really cool person.
The clay sculptures she makes are simplistic and wonderful at the same time.
Ellen of creaturesfromel does stunningly detailed fantasy models. My goal is more or less to have the same level of detail with origami.
Tanja (Tanjasova) is my mum. She got me started on Etsy, she helps me with my work, and I help her with hers. It’s all around awesome.
Oh, and Bob Ross. The man had superhuman mastery over paint.
5. Where can folks find your work?
