yogi tea calming

I am not necessarily the most laid back person. Possibly due to what we will just call “bad decisions in high school and college” and probably also due to just my nature, I tend to be a little but on the anxious side sometimes. The other day, I was reading a forum on natural living where folks were sharing their own experiences with anxiety and talking about natural remedies that helped them, and it really struck a chord with me.

Anxiety gets exhausting, so I decided to hit up the local co-op and see what sorts of things they had on hand. I picked up some Bach’s Rescue Remedy, which I haven’t tried yet, but I’m already digging my other purchase: Organic Calming Tea

The directions on the box say to steep for 5-10 minutes, so in the interest of practicing patience, I gave it a whole 10 minutes to steep. The resulting tea was mild and slightly sweet with hints of hibiscus and lavender. It also has an earthy taste that I’m a fan of.

I was sipping my tea and working on some freelance projects when suddenly I realized I was feeling….well….calm! Of course, tea in general is pretty calming. I’m also not sure how you’d measure a placebo effect, but I swear to you that as I type this I’m feeling less stressed. Even my breathing feels a bit slower.

The only downside to this tea is that it’s also making me sleepy, which isn’t ideal when I’ve got work to finish. I need to remember to have my first cup later in the day next time!

Have you guys tried any natural remedies for anxiety? I tried kava in college and didn’t really notice any effects, but I’m pretty open to giving other things a go!

Im definitely going to have to try this tea! I’ve been experimenting with natural remedies to anxiety for a while now. I’ve never tried Kava, but the Bach’s is nice for a mild fix. Ive also had great success with valerian root. It can make some people sleepy, although I was able to take it during the day without drowsiness. I slept better, felt calmer, and also had really vivid dreams!

  2. I get super anxious too, I find that Valerian Root, in either tablet or liquid form really help calm me down. I sleep really well when I take it as well. You should give it a try! The liquid tastes nasty but to me its worth it to drink 1 quick glass of grossness than deal with anxiety. Or you can just pop a tablet =)

Hey! First, I really enjoy your blog. I’m a new reader, and so far, I’m digging it.

Second, I can relate to anxiety issues. It is so not cool. I actually just tried acupuncture for the first time a few days ago. So far, I do feel a difference! I was super skeptical too, but I had heard good things, so I thought I’d give it a shot. I know that I will go back. Try giving that a shot. I also find genmaicha (toasted rice green) is calming, but since it is a green tea and contains some caffeine, it does not make me tired.

    • Oooh great suggestions! I wonder if my insurance covers accupuncture? In the meantime, I’ll definitely look for toasted rice green tea at the store!
