I’m not a big cleanse person. Thanks to low blood sugar, skipping meals means cold sweats, shaking, and general crankiness. Whoever coined the term “hangry” probably did so right after getting between me and a snack when I hadn’t eaten in a few hours.

The thing that’s always rubbed me the wrong way about cleanses, besides the hunger part, is that they so often feel like veiled ways to not eat.  As someone who’s struggled with body image issues for most of my life, I’m sensitive to anything that seems to normalize disordered eating. That’s why I really dug this video from my friend Anita Avalos about the difference between a detox and a diet. Check it:

Do you guys ever do the cleanse thing? Is it about weight loss for you? I’d love to hear your experiences!

  1. There are a lot of ways and a lot of parts of you to cleanse. Once you start knowing which herbs, spices, fruits and other foods helps you to cleanse, you can become conscious of your topical cleansing efforts. A little bit goes a long way.

  2. I cleanse every single day…not to lose weight but to detox and purify every organ in my body. Genesis Pure makes a liquid cleanse that detoxifies all seven channels of elimination. The liver, kidneys, colon, blood, lymphatic system, skin, and lungs. There is no other “cleanse” product like it on the market.
