Vegan MoFo 2012 Wrap-Up #lml
This year’s Vegan MoFo was amazing, as always. I discovered so many great food blogs!
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, even if it does mark the end of the MoFo. When I quit my corporate job four years ago to freelance full time, I put in notice on Halloween, then went home and threw a humungous party! My best friend from Florida even flew up to celebrate. It was huge.
For the past three Halloweens, Dave and I have been heading up to Asheville, NC for Moogfest, and this year was no exception. Moogfest is a huge electronic music festival that takes place in venues all across downtown Asheville. It’s kind of like someone made me the perfect weekend. We drive up into the Blue Ridge Mountains, eat our way through Asheville all day, shake our booties all night, and then sometimes even grab a late-night snack at Rosetta’s Kitchen on the way back to our hotel room. HEAVEN!
Halloween might mean the end of Vegan MoFo, but the awesome vegan food inspiration doesn’t have to end!
Goodbye, MoFo! I miss you already!
Vegan MoFo always challenges me to cook more and to actually write down my recipes. Here are the recipes I shared for this year’s MoFo:
- Easy Ginger-Sesame Kale
- Tofu Lemongrass Soup
- Easy Pumpkin Oatmeal
- Brown Sugar Crock Pot Applesauce
- Vegan Tofu Masaman Curry
- Indian Tofu Tacos with Double Mango Goodness
- Masaman Curry…IN THE CROCK POT!
- Ginger Vanilla Pear Sauce
- Cheater’s Pasta
Of course, what happens in my own kitchen is just a tiny part of the MoFo. This year, I also interviewed some vegan crafters that I love, love, love:
- Soap-Maker Tracy Perkins of Strawberry Hedgehog
- Potter Jeanette Zeis of The Vegan Dish
- Artist Kenn TwoFour of TwoFour Manufacturing
- Fake Meat Genius Simon Keirn of Gutenfleischers
One of the things I love about freelancing and about focusing on my writing is that I get to connect with such an awesome online community of fellow writers, and that part of my job really shines during Vegan MoFo. Every year, I discover tons of new vegan blogs that I would probably never have stumbled across otherwise.
This year, I might have broken my own record! There are 20 new vegan blogs on my Google Reader. Twenty! And I am in love with every single one of them. Check them out:
- Luminous Vegans
- A,B,C Vegan
- Alien’s Day Out
- Andrea’s Easy Vegan Cooking
- An Unrefined Vegan
- Bite Me (I’m Vegan)
- Chalet Bakery and Kitchen
- FUCK YEAH VEGAN TACOS
- Kelli’s Vegan Kitchen
- Manis Kitchenworks
- Mile High Healthy
- My New Roots
- The Kitchen Operas
- The Singin’ Vegan
- There’s No Fu Like Tofu
- Vegan Appetite
- Vegan Richa
- Vegetalion
- Whiny Vegans
- Wing-It Vegan
What new vegan sites did you guys discover during this year’s MoFo? I’m digging all of the new food inspiration in my Reader, and I’d love to add even more!
Don’t get too sad about the MoFo ending yet! There’s a little bit more awesome vegan food goodness coming, because tomorrow is the Virtual Vegan Potluck! Vegan food bloggers all over the world are contributing recipes, and we’re all publishing at the exact same time, so you can scroll through a delicious vegan potluck menu. I’m contributing a side dish and can’t wait to see what other folks are making!

Yay! Happy potlucking!
Congrats on finishing up with MoFo! Isn’t it such a fun month? I look forward to seeing what you make for the Virtual Potluck. I’m making a salad for the event. Should be a good time! :)
Thanks! I love it so much. I’ll add you to my Google Reader so I don’t miss your Potluck salad tomorrow!
Thanks for the shout-out. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog this month, and am planning on trying out your ginger-sesame kale recipe for dinner tonight as a way to counterbalance all the sweets I’ve been eating.
No problem. :) I’m so glad that I found your site!
