Green Smoothie Recipe: Orange Ginger Dream
This green smoothie reminds me of a creamsicle, but spicy!
After I published 40 Days of Green Smoothies, I have to admit I took a bit of a green smoothie hiatus. Developing the recipes for the book meant testing them each multiple times, and I’d run through the program three or four times before we finally published the book.
Lately, though, it seems like everyone’s drinking a green smoothie, and I wanted in on the action! This recipe isn’t from the book – it’s brand-spanking-new – and I mixed things up a bit to use what I had handy when my smoothie craving hit.
Our CSA delivered some super yummy oranges last week, and I still had a couple left. I’ve never used whole orange in a smoothie, so I decided to try it out! To make this smoothie, I just peeled the orange, leaving the bits of pith on, since those are full of healthy vitamins and fiber. The chopping is just so that you can get at the seeds. De-seed your orange however you like!
Orange Ginger Dream Green Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 small orange, peeled and chopped, seeds removed
- 1/3 cup frozen banana
- 1″ piece of fresh ginger, chopped
- 1 handful fresh parsley
- 1-1 1/2 cups unsweetened soy milk
- 4-5 ice cubes
Cooking Directions
- Throw all of the ingredients into the blender, and whizz!
I think it looks extra good in my Indie Craft Experience pint glass, don’t you?

I love smoothies! Looks fantastic!
Yum, must make this one :)
i love citrus and ginger together. unfortunately my tummy doesnt like smoothies.. but it loves most fruit as is. i’ve been eating a whole lotta satsumas lately. they are such small juicy sweet and citrusy bundles of goodness!
thanks for the pizza mention on care2!
I love that combo too, and I’m sorry to hear that smoothies don’t sit well with you!
No problem – your pizza recipes are so awesome! I hope you got lots of new visitors!
This looks so yummy! A few of us eco-warriors were just talking about oranges…..perfect timing!
Thanks, Stephanie! I made a version this morning with grapefruit instead of orange, since we got a huge red one from our CSA yesterday. It’s really good!
I used to have a smoothie almost daily, but I haven’t been in that routine for a while. Juice has been winning. This sounds so refreshing! Plus, I enjoy citrus even more in the winter. It feels like a little bit of sunshine.
Doesn’t it? I’ve been eating 1-2 oranges or tangerines every day lately!
