After I published 40 Days of Green Smoothies, I have to admit I took a bit of a green smoothie hiatus. Developing the recipes for the book meant testing them each multiple times, and I’d run through the program three or four times before we finally published the book.

Lately, though, it seems like everyone’s drinking a green smoothie, and I wanted in on the action! This recipe isn’t from the book – it’s brand-spanking-new – and I mixed things up a bit to use what I had handy when my smoothie craving hit.

Our CSA delivered some super yummy oranges last week, and I still had a couple left. I’ve never used whole orange in a smoothie, so I decided to try it out! To make this smoothie, I just peeled the orange, leaving the bits of pith on, since those are full of healthy vitamins and fiber. The chopping is just so that you can get at the seeds. De-seed your orange however you like!

    • Oh wow – that must be hard! I would use 1/4 a Haas avocado and add some extra orange to taste, if it’s not sweet enough.

      • Hi Becky,
I am thrilled to be able to try out drinking smoothies.
I just have one question for you. Do you have the nutrition info on the recipes for the smoothies? If not how do I figure out the calories, protein, carbs & fiber etc.?
Thanks for your help in getting me started on this new adventure.

        • Glad to hear it! Honestly, I am not super calorie focused, so I don’t really worry about this. I think SparkPeople has a tool that you can use to calculate the nutrition info for recipes, though. :)

  5. i love citrus and ginger together. unfortunately my tummy doesnt like smoothies.. but it loves most fruit as is. i’ve been eating a whole lotta satsumas lately. they are such small juicy sweet and citrusy bundles of goodness!
thanks for the pizza mention on care2!

    • I love that combo too, and I’m sorry to hear that smoothies don’t sit well with you!

No problem – your pizza recipes are so awesome! I hope you got lots of new visitors!

    • Thanks, Stephanie! I made a version this morning with grapefruit instead of orange, since we got a huge red one from our CSA yesterday. It’s really good!

  6. I used to have a smoothie almost daily, but I haven’t been in that routine for a while. Juice has been winning. This sounds so refreshing! Plus, I enjoy citrus even more in the winter. It feels like a little bit of sunshine.
