This kiwi-strawberry green smoothie is a little bit sweet, a little bit tart, and super refreshing.
Store-bought kiwi-strawberry drinks tend to be hot pink, overly sweet situations that really don’t taste much like any fruit that really exists. This green smoothie doesn’t taste anything like those sugary, artificially-colored kiwi-strawberry drinks you get at the store. What it does taste like is delicious, and it is so much healthier than its processed, distant cousins.
Did you know that kiwi has more vitamin C than an orange? I didn’t either until I started digging into kiwi fruit’s health benefits, and it turns out that kiwifruit isn’t just delicious. It’s packed with health benefits!
Kiwi and Health
According to The World’s Healthiest Foods, kiwi doesn’t just have 120 percent of your daily value for vitamin C. It’s also got powerful antioxidants that one study showed could protect against respiratory illnesses. The carotenoids in kiwi fruit – just like in peaches and carrots – protect your eyes from macular degeneration, and another study found that eating kiwi regularly could prevent blood clots.
On top of all of that, kiwi is freaking delicious. I usually just eat my kiwi sliced without even removing the skin, but over the weekend I decided to try it out in a smoothie instead. I am so glad that I did! This smoothie has no added sugar, so it’s tart with just a tiny hint of sweetness. If you like your smoothies on the sweeter side, you might want to add a a couple of cubes of frozen pineapple or a soaked date to up the sweet without adding refined sugars.
