Hot Toddy Recipe Ingredients

This red wine hot toddy recipe doesn’t use any bourbon or whiskey.

Confession time! I can’t drink brown liquors. Whiskey? Bourbon? Rye? Just the smell makes me feel like I’m going to be sick, and it’s not that I don’t like these liquors. It’s some sort of crazy allergy. I developed this red wine hot toddy recipe as an alternative to the brown-booze-based ones that most people make during the winter months.

I love fall weather, but what I don’t love so much is cold and flu season. Darrol’s doctor said that the first cold and flu season with a baby is the roughest, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned already it’s that when Darrol gets sick, Dave and I are almost guaranteed to also get sick. A hot toddy is such a nice treat when you’re under the weather, and this one is packed with ginger to clear your sinuses and a generous amount of lemon juice for vitamin C.

Red Wine Hot Toddy Recipe

The wine that I used to make this hot toddy recipe is Our Daily Red. It’s an organic table wine, and it’s totally vegan.

“Vegan wine?” you ask. Yes! Wine can actually contain a few different animal products (ew!). You can read more about that over at Eat Drink Better. Our Daily Red sent me a free bottle of their table wine to try, and it’s good stuff! I’ve actually bought their wine before, but it had been a while, and when they offered me a bottle to review, I couldn’t resist.

Do you have a favorite vegan wine? I love a good glass of red and am always looking for new bottles to break open!

  2. Thanks for the recipe – you forgot to mention that My Daily Red is totally sulfite free! The guys at Orleans Hill have a special process that makes it completely without any sulfites. I have a severe sensitivity and it is the only kind I can drink – try the zinfandel or cote zero – both are delicious!

  3. Dude. You got free wine too???? I seriously need to start featuring adult beverages on my blog! I’m not into dark liquors either, and so your hot toddy would totally work for my palate. Here’s hoping that I get sick! (Wait. What?)

    • I know! It has been a good few months for boozy samples around here! It’s a good drink to beat the winter chill if you don’t want to wait for a cold! ;)
