SuperCute!

Ohyea, Soulpatch

We had a little craft nite over at Lori’s tonite to make more mustache glasses, and it was great! We got SO MANY made! I scored a ton on a recent trip to the thrift store, and Liz found a set of 4 with stars all around the tops that I am kind of in love with. When we make the stencils for these, we end up with lots of tiny, sticky-backs mustaches. I am surprised pictures like the one above haven’t happened before this!

The other day, I was at Youngblood Gallery gabbing with Liz and Ally about the mustache glasses. Liz and I were at a complete loss. We both felt like there was a delicious pun to be made here and had no idea what it was. I don’t know why we didn’t ask Ally sooner! Within minutes, she had suggested Glasstaches! Of course! DONE.

After the glasses were done, we got to gabbing about SuperCute! stuff and came up with some plans. We have 3 Mission: Possibles in the works! The next one is this very Tuesday! We’ll get to planning that this very week! More to come.

This weekend, I feel like I ran around town crazily!

Friday night was a happy hour at Manuel’s Tavern with a bunch of friends. It felt like it had been 100 years since I’d just hung out with folks to eat, drink and gab. It was delightful and much, much needed!!

Saturday, I got up a little later than intended but managed to get a bunch of things done. Dave and I rode bikes up to Outback in Little 5 to get new tubes. The ones we had on our bikes were really tready and slow, and it was time to change them up. It takes them about an hour to swap out the tires, so we hit Arden’s Garden for juice shots (yum!) and Rag O Rama where I got a gigantic pair of sunglasses(yay!)!

New Sunglasses

We realized at the bike shop that we hadn’t really thought this new tire thing through. How were we going to get the old ones home? I will tell you how: we carried them purse-style over our shoulders. It was a pretty hilarious ride home, with a pair of tubes hitting my left knee and falling off of my right shoulder. Luckily, we live only about a mile from the bike shop!

That evening, there was an ice cream social at Cosmo’s! OMG. They put together an amazing vegan sundae bar. I had 2 sorts of ice creams and tons of toppings. Never has a bellyache been more worth it! I got to see a whole bunch of awesome folks and do a little junk food shopping while I was there. Here is a picture of how jam-packed Cosmo’s was last nite:

Cram Packed

The obvious thing to do after a huge bowl of ice cream is 9pm sushi dinner at RuSans, so I grabbed Cody and that’s what we did! And it was wonderful! I got home all pumped from sundaes and sushi, so Dave and I watched a couple of movies: V for Vendetta and King of Kong. They were both really awesome! If I ever see that Billy Mitchell fella, though, I will be giving him a piece of my mind. Maybe I’ll run into him when I’m in SoFla this coming weekend! Hollywood isn’t that far from where my mom lives….

This morning, I got up and cut out a big pile of Lunch Kits! I’ll get to sewing them later this week, I hope! They’ve been calling next week at my dayjob “Hell Week,” so nothing is certain. We’ll see, I guess. After a morning of fabric, I picked up Liz and we headed over to Youngblood to drop off ‘Stache Glasses and Votives for the shop! Hurrah! On the way, we ran by Cosmo’s. The bowls, spoons and cups they used for the ice cream social were compostable, so I volunteered our bin for the waste.

'Stache Glass

After an errandy morning, I rushed home to watch Big Baby! I’m pretty much busting I’m so proud of Dave. I made a batch of enchiladas for a late lunch and we sort of bummed around all day. I guess what I’m saying is that this weekend was totally busy and totally perfect. And now: ROCK BAND!

The Indie Craft Experience was awesome, as always! The past couple of days have been just sort of a blur of crafting and good friends.

OK, first, obviously, let’s talk about Friday night’s preparty! Holy crap, you guys. This came off wonderfully! I don’t think I can thank Ashley, Lori and Idalys enough times for the amazing vegan eats! Folks were amazed when we told them all the snacks were vegan! These ladies were more generous than we could have ever asked for, and you really helped make the party so special. Here is where I have to admit that some of the leftover dip from the party sustained us through the day yesterday and I may have just finished up some mini cranberry-orange scones for breakfast. Maybe.

We also had awesome live music by DP3, who also played at ICE the next day! I am pretty sure we couldn’t have pulled off parts of this party without Davis from DP3. He sure did not sign up to be the MC for the night, but he did a fantastical job! Davis helped us transition between the music and showing the Handmade Nation trailer and helped wrangle folks when it was time to announce the Alternative Apparel t-shirt contest winners!

OMG AND! Faythe Levine, the woman responsible for Handmade Nation and owner of The Paper Boat Boutique wants to carry my Lunch Kits in her store!! AAAAAAH! I was completely wound up from all the good vibes when I got home, so Dave and I watched Battlestar Galactica and I tried to sit still.

On to the show!

OK, I’ll get this part out of the way first. It was hot. Like…brutally hot. Whenever I asked someone how they were doing, they would say, “Hot, but good.” There, done!

I know that after every ICE I say that this one was the best one yet, and this one was the best one yet! This was the best group of vendors I’ve seen at any show in Atlanta so far. Folks traveled to come here! My only regret about the show was that I never had the energy to make the rounds and meet as many folks as I would have liked. I didn’t even really get to visit anyone that wasn’t in the immediate vicinity. I only saw Leslie from The Green Wardrobe at the very end, when she was carrying stuff to her car!

The day is sort of a blur, but everyone was super duper nice. We had awesome neighbors, too! We were right beside some of our favorite folks and just across the way from the super-sweet Miss Alison! Our other across the way neighbors were Missy and Raoul! It was great to gab with them. We had Flickr Confession, wherein we admitted that we love looking at each others’ photostreams, especially the cat pictures. They had a brilliant idea about this picture of my kitcats that I am totally going to put into action! More to come on that once I get it together!

Oooh ooh! I did get a chance to visit Jeanette from The Vegan Dish’s booth. She wanted a Lunch Kit and was into a trade!! I got a beautiful serving dish printed with a swirl and tiny stars and a bunny butt magnet!! Best. Trade. EVER. She, of course, took the Squirrel Lunch Kit. I was happy to see it go to such a great home!

So I guess that’s it! Christy and Shannon put on another kickass event! They are the best! Hurrah!

Oh! While I’m thinking about it….a few folks yesterday asked me questions about Atlanta Craft Mafia stuff, so I just wanted to reiterate here that Liz, Lori and I decided to leave the ACM and focus on SuperCute!. You can read my original post about it here. If you do have questions for the ACM, you can email the ladies directly at atlcraftmafia@gmail.com.

New Hugbot

The Indie Craft Experience is in less than 2 weeks, and I’m totally stoked! I haven’t updated the shop in a bit, since I’m trying to ramp up for the show. This little Hugbot, along with bunches of other stuff, are just for ICE!

We got our booth assignments not too long ago, toooo! SuperCute! is #22. You can check out a map here.

Oooh and! In other super-exciting news, the folks from Cosmo’s Vegan Shoppe, a local place that stocks my Lunch Kits, are hitting up the Animal Rights Conference this August in DC. They’re taking a bunch of Lunch Kits up with them! Woo! How awesome is that??

In more bummery news, my sewing machine is not so much fixed as still broken. At least it’s broken in a different way? I ended up buying a “backup” machine sooner than I planned to. It’s heading back to the shop tomorry, where they promise to get it working for real and for not additional charge. We’ll see!

Hugbot Skirt

I’m a liiiitle obsessed with making these guys. There might be a few Hugbot skirts by the time ICE gets here. Speaking of ICE! They are looking for volunteers for everything from swag stuffing to checking folks in to working at the t-shirt tent. Christy and Shannon work so hard to pull together an amazing event, I just know you want to help them make it even better by pitching in! If you do, you can reach them through the Contact page on their site. They will love you forever. And that’s a promise!

Also speaking of ICE, I have some exciting SuperCute! news! We’re throwing the preparty at Youngblood Gallery! An Evite will be going out soon. There are going to be snacks and beer and a visit from Faythe Levine to show off the trailer for the Handmade Nation, the indie craft documentary. We are totally thrilled to be a part of such an awesome event!

Oooh also, I realized I promised a pic of the completed Pi Lunch Kit and didn’t deliver. So here ya go!

Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa

SuperCute! will be setting up this very Saturday at the Athens Indie Crafstravaganzaa! It sounds like it’s going to be really fun. The site promises “a fun filled day of music, good food, friendly faces and lots of handmade goodies to browse.” Whee! That sounds pretty much perfect! Check out their site for directions and details!

I'm a Liar

Inman Park was totally fun, despite some pretty wretched weather overnight on Saturday and early in the day on Sunday. Luckily, our tent rocks at keeping our stuff dry!

The parade was amazing as usual. I’m always moved by all of the different antiwar folks and by the crazy cool environmental stuff. Probably my favorite thing that falls under the latter was this solar car!

We had a great time hanging out at the booth. We totally lucked out and were placed right next door to Christy and Shannon! I sort of wonder if we asked to be their neighbors when we applied! Christy and her husband might be the cutest mustachioed couple in town (please don’t judge if you happen to see this picture again in an upcoming Mustache Wednesday!
Mustache Love

Late this afternoon, Shannon enticed me to go on a walk by mentioning that The Dulce Vegan was set up at the fest! I had no idea! They were almost completely out of goodies when I got there, but I did manage to snag a pineapple cardamom muffin. It was SO GOOD.

A huge thanks to all the fine folks who came out to see us! We had a great time and hope you did, too!
