Dulce Vegan Grand Opening!

You guys! I have been hinting, and now I can finally come out and say it: the Dulce Vegan Grand Opening is on August 27th!!!

I am super honored to be one of the artists in the curated art show that they’re hosting as part of their opening festivities. Yay!! I have been crafting my fingers off getting some collages and other fun pieces together for the show, and I can’t wait to see my stuff hanging on the walls in my favorite local bakery.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the pieces I’ve been working on for the show:

Shannon Mulkey of the Indie Craft Experience is curating the show, and my friend Bonnie Heath is going to have photos up at the opening, too! I can’t wait to see what other local artists are taking part. The time is still TBD, but I’ll update as soon as I know for sure!

The Dulce Vegan is right in downtown Kirkwood at 1994 Hosea L. Williams Drive.

Cupcake Inspiration! #lml

Sooooo….I don’t have all of the details yet (like the date), but! I’m taking part in a group show later on this month, and without naming any names I will tell you that the show is at a certain bakery here in Atlanta that I’m obsessed with.

Obviously, lots and lots of cupcake-themed art is in order!

I’m really honored that I got invited to take part in this show, and I want to do a few different sorts of pieces for it (fingers crossed!). Some of it is already in progress, but to get super pumped about cupcake art, I thought the best thing to do was to, you know, look at beautiful pictures of cupcakes! Just finding images for this post have got me pretty excited to get crafty!

Orange Ginger Cupcakes with Spicy Ginger Frosting

I’m not sure what happened, but I’m on a serious cupcake kick these days! Maybe it all started with those Coconut Lime Cupcakes with Molasses Rum Buttercream Frosting? Or maybe my little sister’s sushi cupcakes were the culprit! Regardless, I keep ending up in the kitchen hoping that I’ve still got enough pan liners, powdered sugar, and flour!

These orange ginger cupcakes were inspired by the beautiful oranges that arrived in our Vegetable Husband baskets last week.

Orange Ginger Cupcakes
Whip up a batch of your favorite vanilla cupcake recipe with the following changes:

Use half white and half wheat flour instead of all white flour.
Add 1/4t orange extract, and omit any other extracts the recipe calls for.
Fold 2t grated ginger and 2t grated orange zest into the batter.

Ginger Frosting
1/4c non-hydrogenated vegetable shortening
1T grated ginger – A food processor works best. The finer the better!
1 3/4c powdered sugar
1-2T almond milk, as needed

Whip the ginger and shortening together until very well combined, then whip in the powdered sugar until the frosting is totally smooth. Add almond milk by the teaspoon, if it needs thinning out.

Frost the cupcakes just before serving. I used a spoon to just put a generous dollop on top of each one this time, since the recipe made so much frosting!

Coconut Mango Cupcakes

I bought a little container of dried, candied mango a few weeks ago and it’s been languishing in the pantry since then, begging to be used in some sort of tasty baked good. I’m not sure how it took me that long to come up with a solution: CUPCAKES!

Just like the Coconut Lime Cupcakes with Molasses Rum Buttercream Frosting, these are based on the golden vanilla cupcakes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. You could also use your favorite vanilla cupcake recipe, if you prefer. Just make these simple substitutions and additions:

Sushi….Cupcakes? My Little Sister is Brilliant!

My little sister, Amanda, made these sushi cupcakes – aren’t they awesome?? They were for a friend’s birthday at a sushi restaurant, and the owner was so impressed he asked if they did catering!

She didn’t use a vegan recipe, but I’m sure the Golden Vanilla Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World would work just as well. Here’s how Amanda says she made these amazing dessert sushi cupcakes (and a few more photos!):

Coconut Lime Cupcakes with Molasses Rum Buttercream Frosting

Aka: LOST Cupakes! A bunch of folks have asked for this recipe. It’s not so much a recipe as tweaks on someone else’s recipe, and I’ll lay that out below along with a link to some great cupcake toppers and the awesome cupcake stand in the photo!

Last night’s premiere left me…sort of speechless! I’ve basically got no theories. My friend Denishia did have a good one, though, and now I’m going to put a cut, so folks who haven’t seen s6e1 won’t get spoiled. If you’re looking for the cupcake recipe, scroll past the stars to the bottom.
