It turns out that we have so many handmade ornaments from Christmas parties past that there was nowhere on the tree to put our store-bought glass ball ornaments from last year. Rather than pitch them or store them for another year, I really wanted to find a new way to use these. They were so pretty!

A while back, I ran across a tutorial for making these sweet ornament trees, but now I can’t remember where! If it was your project, please let me know…I would love to credit you!

***

EDIT
The original tutorial was on Indie Fixx! Head on over for the complete deets and some lovely pictures of Jen’s version!

***

The tutorial mentioned using hot glue to secure the balls on there, but I wanted mine to be a bit more flexible, in case I had a new idea for these suckers next year. Skipping the glue made this even more simple! Here’s how it went:

Our tree is all trimmed, and now I’ve got ornaments on my mind! Do you guys put up a Christmas tree? Growing up, we called the one at my folks’ house a Hanukkah Bush, and I still top my tree with a Star of David made from shiny blue and gold pipe cleaners, preschool style. It really makes it feel like home that way, you know?

I just love a felt ornament, since so often they’re the Kunin felt made from recycled soda bottles. Check out these sweet little guys:

Aaaaah Halloween is just days away! Last night, Dave and I spent a few hours carving the pumpkin and hanging decorations! OK, actually, I drew on the pumpkin and Dave carved it while I hung decorations. We try to keep me and sharp knives away from each other, if possible, because I am what you might call “accident prone.”

Dave is getting really awesome at carving! Check out our Cat-o-Lantern:

The plan this year was to have all handmade decorations along with a ton of gourds great and small, and things are coming along so well! I think my favorite decoration so far was also the simplest. Behold: BAT LAMP:
