So I’m considering not applying for the East Atlanta Strut this year, and I’m pretty bummed about it. There are some new rules in effect that are pretty discouraging. It almost feels like they’re saying “Crafters Need Not Apply.” From the official application information pdf:

First off, they specify that works must have “no
 commercially
 available 
parts.” I sort of worry that the lunchboxes and utensils that I include in my Lunch Kits would work against me here.

They are also pretty anti-jewelry, which is a problem for my boothmates (and therefore me), since both of them make gorgeous artisan jewelry:

Five percent?? That is insane! Our booth is usually more like 20% – 30% jewelry, but I don’t think that qualifies us for the extremely competitive jewelry category! This alone makes me think it would almost be a waste of my nonrefundable application fee.

They’re also being more strict about booth sharing:

I understand that they want us to honestly represent what our booths will look like, and I even get the separate applications, but separate fees? We share a booth to save on cash. And two artists per booth basically means that the three of us can’t do the show together. We can’t afford two booth spaces for the three of us, and we don’t even need that much space.

This whole thing is a real bummer, because I love doing the Strut, and I love East Atlanta! Part of me wants to figure out a way to make this work, but part of me sees it as a sign that I should just pull it together and try to do Crafty Bastards in DC. I met a bunch of the folks behind this show at the Summit of Awesome, and I also sort of fell in love with DC, if it’s possible to fall in love with a city in 5 very busy days.

What do you guys think? Am I over-reacting to these new rules? I am having my first glass of wine in almost two weeks, so that is not outside the realm of possibility.

This weekend so far has been super-hectic and wonderful. I completely forgot to take a single picture!

Yesterday morning, SuperCute! set up at the East Atlanta Strut. It was a wonderful day with wonderful people! We had perfect weather, a prime spot to watch the parade and got to gab with lots of old pals! Thanks to all the fine folks who made it out to say hi.

At the show Liz, Lori and I got to gabbing about my merch. They gave some really great advice, and I made some decisions. First of all, I’m bringing back the stainless steel lunchboxes. I really think they make the kits feel like…well…kits. Also, I’m going to pick up some frames for my collages. They’re still going to be listed unframed on Etsy, but I want them ready to hang when we do shows. Those ladies are so smart!

After the Strut, Dave helped us load up and whisked me home to get ready for the Munny show at MINT. He surprised me with roses, a bottle of wine and two packs of my favorite gum! How sweet is that?? Some leftover Chinese, a shower and a nice glass of wine later, we were on the way to see the show. It was kind of surreal. This was probably due in part to a long day in the sun, but I don’t think that’s all of it. Somehow, it felt different than at the Strut. Maybe I’m used to the mellow craft show vibe? Who knows! It was really fun – so fun that we stayed out far later than we meant to. We didn’t get home until around 11!

Today is a birthday brunch for Meghan, one of my very favorite

Saturday during the day, SuperCute! is setting up at The East Atlanta Strut. The [...]]]> This Saturday, I’ve got two shows going on! It’s going to be fantastical, exhausting and totally fun. I hope folks can make it out to one or maybe even both!

Saturday during the day, SuperCute! is setting up at The East Atlanta Strut. The artist market runs from 10am until 6pm. It’s going to be an awesome show right smack in the middle of the East Atlanta Village.

After the Strut, I’m going to zoom home, clean myself up and head over to MINT Gallery for Munnybrella, a designer toy show! Participants each purchased a blank Munny doll to mod out however they wanted. Mine is a little tree friend, who remains un-named.

It’s going to be a really long day, and I kind of can’t wait!!!
