My craft room is decently organized, but when we finish the addition on our house and I have a whole studio all to myself, my plan is to pull everything out, paint the room mustard yellow and paint the trim white, then move things back in to create a super organized space for working and for hosting small craft nights.

The construction won’t be done for at least a few weeks, and it could be done as late as the end of May, but I want to have a plan ready so I can attack this new space and make it awesome!

I have to admit that I’m pretty excited about the part where I get rid of excess crafty stuff! Look out, Goodwill! The organization bit is going to be a fun challenge. I’m pretty good at organizing my calendar and staying on top of events and assignments, but when it comes to organizing a space, I am not your go to gal. My mom, an organizational maven, is coming to town to help me out, but I want to have things semi-set up before she gets here so we can do fun out of the house stuff on her visit, too!

My other goal with redoing the craft room is to use existing furniture as much as possible and flesh it out with thrifted pieces. I want to buy as little new as possible to keep this eco-friendly. I’ve been eyeing lots of beautiful craft rooms lately, especially for storage solutions, and here are some of the craft rooms that caught my eye!

1. I love all the shelving and how sweet the bunting looks in this room from I Have to Say. I want my fabric to be that organized!
2. I found this sweet little nook over at Home Designing, and they say if was from Benita‘s craft room. I like how they fit in a space for lounging! I wonder if that bench has hidden storage? This is the sort of craft night area I want. Maybe combined with some floor pillows for extra seating!
3. I am in love with Jen Caputo’s craft room! Not only are her walls mustard yellow, she’s using a pegboard to organize! I have tons of pegboard left over from a display, and I definitely want to incorporate it into my craft room.
4. This room from Rosie Posie is so bright and cheery! I’ve been toying with the idea of using my sewing table as a room divider, and this makes me want to give it a try. More surface area definitely helps when I’m sewing big batches of aprons and Lunch Kits!
5. Oh, the storage! The folks at lil sprinkles found this sewing corner on Sweet Home Style. I like how they combine open shelves with containers, so you can see everythign without it looking messy.

For the past few years, I’ve been buying Slingshot organizers each December. I like the layout of the pages, and all of the cool doodlings and tips keep me entertained on the train if I forget my book. This year, though, I think it’s time for a change. I forgot to pick up a new Slingshot (maybe I should have written that on the calendar somewhere?) and then today ran across this awesome tutorial on making your very own planner out of trash on greenUpgrader!

Guess who is going to be digging through her recycle bin tonight? They give the option of printing out pages or drawing your own. I might go for a combination….we’ll see how it goes!
