I’m sewing like crazy to get ready for the holidays, and sometimes a little inspiration is in order to keep things moving along.

I know, it’s still summer, but last fall I made myself a promise, and I’m determined to keep it! Every fall/holiday season, I feel like I’m drowning as I keep up with shops and festivals where I’m selling my stuff, and every year I tell myself that next year, I’m going to start early. Seriously, this has been happening for years, and this time, I mean it.

So! I’ve got a goal amount of product that I want to have finished before the fall festivals and holiday shopping rush get here, and I’m working towards that every week. I started a few weeks ago, and I have to admit that sometimes it’s hard to sit down to sew something now that I probably won’t need until the weather cools off. My brain nags me with other things it wants to do, like sit on the porch with a beer or read my book or watch reruns of Dr. Who.

Do you ever have a hard time getting into the sewing groove? I thought a little bit of sewing inspiration might help kick my butt into gear, and in case you’re having a similar problem, I wanted to share it with you guys!

Over at Feelgood Style, Maria shared a really adorable infographic on laughter. It turns out laughing does more than elevate your mood – it’s good for your health! How awesome is that?

Of course, choosing happiness sometimes takes a little bit of work, right?

It’s all well and good to talk about choosing happiness, but sometimes it takes a bit of inspiration to actually get there, especially when you’re feeling overwhelmed or things are just plain less than stellar. Luckily, there’s tons of joyful inspiration out there! Here are some of the things that have made me smile lately…

• Photos of people jumping, like this one from Evil Erin, always make me smile.
• My pal Bettie’s new Etsy shop is full of joyful photography.
• Nothing makes me smile like cupcakes!

• This whimsical bunting from Montclair Made is awesome! I love that she used vintage ric rac instead of ribbon.
• My pal Jess is launching a line of inspirational rain boots, and the patterns are so joyful!
• These sweet baby bands from my friend Tobi’s shop are adorable, and the sleeping baby photos are dangerously cute! I dare you not to smile.

My editor at Crafting a Green World asked for more tutorials not too long ago, and it’s really inspired me to craft in directions that I don’t normally go. When you run a crafty biz, it’s easy to get into the rut of making the same thing over and over. I’ve been sewing like crazy to restock Cupcaprons, Lunch Kits, Snack Sleeves and Cup Gloves for the show, and all of that marathon crafting can be a little bit [...]]]>

The Summer Indie Craft Experience (ICE) is only a week away, and I’m already getting excited about checking out my fellow vendors’ booths. I’ve been sewing like crazy to restock Cupcaprons, Lunch Kits, Snack Sleeves and Cup Gloves for the show, and all of that marathon crafting can be a little bit exhausting. When I start to get a little weary it really helps me to peruse other folks’ crafts to give me an energy boost to keep on sewing.

There are some really amazing crafters participating in the summer ICE, and what’s more inspirational than checking out beautiful handmade goodies, right? For your daydreaming and shopping pleasure:

2. Fancy seasoned salts from beautiful briny sea
3. The ever-fabulous Missy Kulik and Raoul de la Cruz

I have lots of sewing left to do to get my own booth together, and I can’t wait for next weekend! ICE is my favorite Atlanta show, hands down, and I always leave there feeling inspired and wanting to make, make, make!
