We’re going to hang in LA with another old friend, then take the Coast Starlight up to San Francisco to see even more people [...]]]> california postcardIn just a couple of days, I’m going to be hopping on a plane with one of my very best friends and heading to California for a whole week! We’re going to hang in LA with another old friend, then take the Coast Starlight up to San Francisco to see even more people that I love and miss.

The Coast Starlight is a super awesome Amtrak train ride that goes up the California coast. It’s famous for beautiful views of mountains, valleys, desert, coastline, and wildlife. I learned about it while researching my audition piece for How Stuff Works and can’t wait to see it for myself!

It might be quiet around here for the next week or so, but soon I’ll be back, rejuvenated, and ready to talk about crafts, food, and fun!

I’ve got to say, I was a little wary of taking a three- and a five-year-old to the Magic Kingdom, but now I see why parents get into this. Those boys were pumped, and it was pretty darn cute!

We also hit up Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure while we were in town. I was happy to see that all three parks now offer recycling bins for plastic bottles and for cans. It would have been nice if there had been recycle bins next to every trash bin, though.

There were only recycling bins in select places in each park. I was on the lookout for bins and had to ask an employee to point me to one. For someone not thinking about it, that bottle or can would probably go right into a trash bin. How many more bottles and cans would Disney and Universal divert from the landfill if the bins were not just available but prominent?

We’re back! The beach was fantastical: fruity poolside drinks, playtime with my awesome rockstar nephews, and swimming and suntans.

On Friday morning, we headed back to Atlanta and I went basically straight to the airport for a quick trip to Ft Lauderdale. My cousin Laure [...]]]>

We’re back! The beach was fantastical: fruity poolside drinks, playtime with my awesome rockstar nephews, and swimming and suntans.

On Friday morning, we headed back to Atlanta and I went basically straight to the airport for a quick trip to Ft Lauderdale. My cousin Laure was in town from Le Havre, and this was really the only weekend I could get down there to see her. We had an awesome brunch at mom’s, then played board games with my old friend Sam. Perfect!
