Fall cocktails seem to lean toward milk and cream, but you don't need animal ingredients to sip a glassful of fall. These fall drinks are delicious and totally dairy free.
I really wanted to come up with a brand spanking new fall cocktail for today, but it just wasn't happening. Darrol Henry had some kind of virus and a sinus infection. So instead of mixing up boozy goodness I focused on baby snuggles and trying to figure out what food appealed to him. (Plain hot dog buns, in case you were wondering. He maybe was living almost exclusively on plain bread while he was under the weather. Also applesauce.)
Darrol ended up going on antibiotics for his sinus infection, and he's on the mend now. And I'll tell you something: after a long day of trying to keep my poor sick kiddo happy, a couple of fall cocktails sounded mighty good. It is so hard to see him in pain!
ANYWAY! Enough about my kid. Let's make some fall cocktails and focus on how great THIS weekend is going to be!
1. Apple Pie Shrub
A shrub is a sweet and sour cocktail made with vinegar syrup. Don't let the words "vinegar" and "cocktail" together keep you from trying this apple pie soda cocktail recipe!
2. Creamy Spiked Pumpkin Chai
Warm and cozy chai tea made with almond milk and real pumpkin. You can serve up this pumpkin chai hot or cold and make it with or without the rum.
3. Sweet Orange and Rosemary Shrub
Another shrub! Orange and rosemary are such rich fall flavors, and they're perfect with the sour kick from the vinegar in this sweet orange cocktail recipe.
4. Roasted Apple Tom Collins
Sweet roasted apples give this spin on a classic Tom Collins recipe plenty of decadence without any dairy in sight.
5. Figgy Ginger Fizz
Fig season is painfully short, so this fizz recipe calls for dried figs instead of fresh. Take THAT, fig season! I extend thee!
6. Hot Buttered Rum
Are you having an early fall cold snap? Hot butterless rum will warm you right up. Most of my cocktails tend to be on the tame side of the booziness scale, but this one is a doozy.
7. Coconut Pumpkin Spice Latte
I know, another pumpkin cocktail? What can I say? Pumpkin and pumpkin spice just scream fall to me. There's no coffee in this spiked pumpkin spice latte recipe. Instead, you get the coffee taste from good ol' Kahlua.
Hey, speaking of this weekend! I hope you local folks can make it out to Dulce Vegan tomorrow at 2pm. I'll be there signing copies of Bowls! Pick up a delicious vegan treat, a hot drink, and a copy of Bowls!

These all sound really good! I needed some ideas for cocktails with simple, versatile ingredients for the colder months. Thanks for sharing!
