Whiskey isn’t the only way to spike a hot toddy! This Ginger Hot Toddy recipe has a fruity shot of Elderberry Shrub and a healthy splash of Pimms. Get well soon, friends!
Ginger Hot Toddy with Pimm’s
Oh my gosh, this cold season has been horrendous! I think that at least one person in my family has been down for the count at a time since sometime in November. Most recently, it was my turn, and this Ginger Hot Toddy made me feel SO. MUCH. BETTER.
When you’re sick, you do not want to do a lot of work to fix yourself anything, so this recipe is super simple. It does assume that you have a batch of my Instant Pot Elderberry Shrub on hand. I always do during this time of year, because you never know who will need a little elderberry power next.
If you don’t have a batch of Elderberry Shrub on hand, don’t worry! You can make this with your favorite elderberry syrup or just sweeten with agave nectar or maple syrup. You’re sick – don’t work too hard!
I chose Pimms no. 1 to spike this Ginger Hot Toddy, frankly, because we had some. One of Dave’s coworkers is from England, and she gave us a bottle for Christmas along with a recipe for a proper Pimm’s Cup.
When I was feeling super rotten the other evening and wanted a hot toddy to soothe my sinuses, the bottle called to me. I’m so glad that it did!
Pimm’s no. 1 is a fruity, gin-based liqueur. It is pretty low in alcohol, which I think is perfect when you’re sick. A little booziness is soothing, but too much just dries you out just when you most need to stay hydrated.
How to Make a Ginger Hot Toddy
Like I mentioned above, this recipe is made for ease, because who wants to concoct anything complicated in the middle of a monster cold? Here’s how you make your Ginger Hot Toddy with Pimm’s and elderberry:
- Brew yourself a cup of strong ginger tea. I used Yogi Tea, because I like how nice and spicy their ginger is.
- Add a 1 ounce shot of elderberry syrup.
- Add a 1-2 ounce shot of Pimm’s no. 1.
- Sip, and feel better.
I know, right? So easy, so delicious, and so, so soothing.
