Welcome back to another episode of Talkin' Tofu, y'all! This week on the show, we'll talk tofu salad, shepherd's pie, and try the new Morningstar Farms pizza bites.
And you can hear me get way too inside-baseball about Animal Crossing before ditching out of the intro without asking Dave about his day.

Right now, I am obsessed with Animal Crossing, a game that I describe as "The Sims, but cute." You live on a deserted island with talking animal neighbors, and you can build the island any way you want.
I share the island with our kid, and the stars of our island are the Arcade Disco and the space area. The Arcade Disco has all kinds of video games and a dart board, and it has a rainbow dance floor. The space area is packed with all of the space items I could collect, including two rockets!
And that's probably more Animal Crossing than you thought you'd get on a food podcast. Let's talk about what we ate!
Pizza bites review
If you were a child of the 80s, I'm sure you remember making frozen pizza rolls and bagel bites. So much nostalgia, and I've never seen a vegan one at stores before these new ones from Morningstar Farms!
We've been doing a lot of late-night snacking lately, and Morningstar Farms pizza bites seemed like a natural addition to our weekend snack game.
When it game to these pizza bites, y'all, we are a house divided.
Dave loved the pepperoni bites, but I felt like they were too bready for my taste. I tasted too much bread and not enough of the filling. What I could taste of the filling was good, I just wanted more flavor and less bread.
Dave, on the other hand, is a crust king, so he is here for these pepperoni bites. He thought the bread was the perfect amount of crust, encasing that sauce-vegan cheese-pepperoni filling.
We had the total opposite reaction to the sausage bites.
If you're more of a sauce queen, like me, then the sausage bites are going to be your jam. The center of each on had a big, toothsome, spiced piece of vegan sausage with a bit of sauce and cheese for good measure.
And for some reason, the crust on the sausage bites seemed thinner, which I loved!
Dave actually doesn't think the sausage pizza bites should be called pizza bites at all. He said he didn't get enough sauce and cheese and that the sausage overpowered the whole thing.
In his estimation, the sausage bites were more of a breaded meatball than a pizza bite.
Which pizza bite is for you is really up to your personal tastes. Fellow sauce queens will probably like the sausage, but crust kings are going to prefer the pepperoni.
And, don't worry, y'all. Our marriage will overcome this discord.
What's cooking
Y'all, Dave asked me to make tofu salad sandwiches for supper, and it was the best! It took 15 minutes to make dinner that night, and I made enough for leftovers, which solve the eternal question, "What's for lunch?" for this week.
Instead of regular salt, we made this tofu salad with black salt, which Dave ordered online probably six months or a year ago. It's been in a glass jar in the pantry that whole time, and it still has a great flavor!
Dave had his on a po' boy roll, and I had mine over salad greens. The kid had his on a bun. It was a hit all around, so a double win!
The other thing we had this week was shepherd's pie. I know, that's kind of heavy food for summer, but I was just craving something filling and cozy.
Instead of our usual tofu, I used a drained can of lentils, and the whole family loved it! The kid is sometimes picky about beans and pulses, so any dish that gets lentils into his belly is a win in my book.
