Y'all know I love a fancy soda, so when VINA offered to send us a variety pack of their prebiotic "soda with smarts", I said yes, please! If you're looking for even more fun, fancy sodas to try, check out our review of the full line of Avec Drinks!
VINA Soda review
The variety pack that the company sent us to try came with five cans of soda. Let's break down our review by flavor.
All of the sodas had what Dave and I described as a "soft" or "vanilla" flavor to them that felt very intentional.
Cherry Pop
The Cherry Pop gave strong black cherry vibes when you sipped it, and then that softness almost made it taste like cherry-vanilla. If you like cherry soda, I think you'll be a fan of this one.
This soda, like the others, has a light stevia aftertaste at the end. It's not necessarily unpleasant, just present.
Grapefruit
The grapefruit leaned more sweet than tart, which isn't always my jam. But this soda was in my top three!
I think it would be really lovely with a squeeze of lime to bring out the tartness a bit more.
Lime Lemon
Calling this Lime Lemon instead of Lemon Lime might seem gimmicky, until you sip this soda. It's very lime-forward, which is lovely!
This one gave me big Crystal Light vibes, but with bubbles, I think because of the citrus-stevia combo. It was my number two flavor pick.
Ginger Fizz
The ginger fizz was my favorite. It had a well-rounded ginger taste.
This isn't a spicy ginger ale. It's a smooth, ginger soda. Dave said he felt like it would make a great mixer, and I agree.
Pomegranate
The pomegranate was Dave's favorite flavor, which is shocking, since he doesn't normally like pomegranate. We agreed that this one tasted strongly of pomegranate and just worked really well overall.
The soft/vanilla flavor in this one almost made it taste like an old-school, red gummy bear!
What makes it 'smart'?
What roped me in about VINA Sodas was that a 12-ounce can has only 25 calories. I'm not a calorie counter, but I am trying to avoid overdoing it on refined sugar. Fewer calories means less sugar! That's pretty smart.
VINA is also made with organic ingredients, which is always a plus. Organic is better for workers and the planet -- a win-win!
They also add trace minerals, prebiotics, and fiber to their sodas. A 12-ounce can contains one gram of fiber. That isn't a ton, but it's better than nothing.
Where to buy it
If you live in Arizona, California, or Hawaii, you can find VINA at some Whole Foods and Erewhon markets. They have a store locator on their site that can help you find the nearest can.
The rest of us can get them online from the VINA website.
