Propagating succulents is super duper easy, and I have done it successfully with very little work. Here's how to propagate succulents for free!
So, you lovingly planted your succulent but maybe you lost a few leaves in the process. Or maybe your cat took a liking to one of your plants and you keep waking up in the morning to discover that she's torn yet more leaves right off and left them in the pot. Or do you just love the succulent you're growing and want more but don't want to pony up the cash? It's time to propagate!
All you need is a succulent plant with a leaf or two to spare or even leaves that have fallen off when you transplanted or your cat decided to be a jerk. Here's how to do it.
How to Propagate Succulents for Free
1. Gather up a leaf from the plant that you want to propagate.
2. Place it in a window where it will get some indirect light. Leave it there for a few days, and then start checking on it. It might take just a few days or it could take a week or more, but eventually, your leaf will sprout tiny, adorable roots! To the right, you can see some leaves that my cat lovingly pulled off of my succulent plant at different stages.
3. When you see those cute little roots like the one on the far right, you're ready to plant! Whip yourself up with a pot that has the succulent potting mix that I talked about here (see step 4).
4. Plant your leaf as shallowly as you can without it falling over. Leave your new plant in indirect light and don't water it for two days. After that, you can move it to the sun, if you want, and water sparingly just like you would any other succulent plant. Then, you can watch it take root and bloom like magic!

I have grown mine in both a north-facing window and west-facing.
