Non-dairy Netflix & Chilll'd review
The first flavor we'll talk about is the Netflix & Chilll'd. This one is a peanut butter base with pretzel swirls and fudge brownies.
Dave thought it was a nice, balanced treat. It had the perfect amount of chocolate for him, and he loved that dose of salty pretzel.
I also liked this one. The peanut butter base was rich and creamy, and the fudge pieces were decadent. My only wish for this ice cream was for more pretzel in my bowl. But I have sort of a salt tooth.
Dave disagrees and thinks that the Netflix & Chilll'd had the perfect amount of savory pretzel for him, so I think that depends on whether your palate leans toward sweet or salty.
After some discussion, we decided that what might be fun is to crumble some pretzels on top of a bowl of this ice cream. That would maintain the crunch and put the salt forward more.
We also discussed crumbling potato chips on top of the Chocolate Salted 'n Swirled, which we will talk about next!
Non-dairy Chocolate Salted 'n Swirled review
Chocolate Salted 'n Swirled is an "exclusive flavor", though we aren't totally clear what that means. We got these pints from Target, so maybe it means exclusive to that chain? Tell us if you've seen this pint anywhere else!
This ice cream has a chocolate base with chocolate sandwich cookies and a salted caramel swirl. And I loved it. I love ice cream with layers of chocolate, and this delivered all of the chocolate of my dreams.
Dave tried this one right before we recorded, and he didn't like it at all. He thought the ice cream was "too chocolatey". I have to disagree here. If you like a rich, creamy, dark chocolate ice cream, this base is for you.
He also thought that the sandwich cookies were too soggy and that the filling was too much like marshmallow in texture. I do agree that the cookies were soft, but I think the softness gave them a fudgy texture that I really enjoyed.
Dave also said he didn't think the caramel swirl had that bit of salt he was looking for. Now that I've had this ice cream a couple more times, I do have to agree here. The caramel was lovely, but I didn't get any salt from it in subsequent bowls.
Talk about a divisive ice cream! I'd say that if you are serious about chocolate, this ice cream will be right up your alley. If you're more like Dave and like a chocolate element offset by other flavors, you probably want a different pint.
Of the two, Dave's clear favorite was the Netflix & Chilll'd, while I am all in on that Chocolate Salted 'n Swirled. Which I guess is good news? Neither of us needs to share!
