Beyond Breakfast Sausage Links review
At the grocery store a few weeks ago, I snagged a package of Beyond Sausage Breakfast Links, and Dave made them in the air fryer for our Sunday grit bowl brunch.
The bowls had grits, the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Links, Just Egg, corn, and waffle fries. Wow, decadent! Normally, we'd add a veggie and some sliced avocado, but it was grocery day, so our produce drawer was basically empty.
We've reviewed the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Patties before, but the links are new and exciting!
The breakfast sausage links are smaller than a full-sized Beyond Sausage: around a third of the size.
I loved these. They had that signature Beyond Sausage flavor and texture. To me, they really felt like a miniature version of their brat links with a little bit of a breakfasty flavor.
Dave wasn't as big a fan, shockingly! He's infuriated that I compared them to full-sized Beyond Sausages at all. He thought these were missing both the texture and flavor of full-sized Beyond Sausage.
He called them mushy! Honestly, Dave thinks he was eating a full different meal from what I ate, and I agree. These sausages are incredible!
What are they made of?
It's natural to be curious about what's in vegan meat. There are so many ways to create plant-based meat analogues! Here's what Beyond uses in its breakfast sausage links:
Water, pea protein, expeller pressed canola oil, refined coconut oil, calcium alginate casing, natural vegan flavors, yeast, rice protein, chicory root fiber, methylcellulose, salt, tapioca syrup solids, tapioca dextrose, apple extract, psyllium husk fiber, yeast extract, potassium chloride, pomegranate extract, vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, pea fiber, sunflower lecithin, beet powder for color, spices, carrot
The ingredients are very similar to Beyond's larger, plant-based sausages, which explains why the texture is so similar. If you like Beyond Sausage, I think you'll love the breakfast links, too.
They're not exactly healthy, but neither is the food they're looking to mimic. If you want a healthier "sausage", try the sausage mushrooms that I make to go in my vegan grits casserole.
