Y'all, I'm obsessed with matcha lattes, and this super easy avocado matcha smoothie is a perfect summer spin on one of my favorite hot drinks.
The addition of avocado makes this smoothie so satisfying. You can get your morning matcha and a filling breakfast, all in one glass!
The recipe below serves one, but feel free to double or triple it. As long as it fits into your blender without going over the fill line, you can multiply this recipe to your heart's content.
Ingredients and substitutions
- oat milk - I love the way that the flavor of oat milk pairs up with matcha! You can use soy or almond milk, if you prefer. Just choose something creamy!
- Haas avocado - Thickens the matcha smoothie and adds some healthy fats to make this a filling drink. Depending on the size of your avocado and how thick you want your smoothie, use ¼ to ½ of the avocado.
- rolled oats - These thicken the smoothie and bring more of that good, oat flavor to the mix.
- matcha - Choose a good, unsweetened matcha powder. If you can only find sweetened matcha powder, omit the agave from the recipe.
- agave nectar - For sweetness. You can also use maple syrup, cane sugar, or a sugar substitute, if you prefer.
- ice - This smoothie has a lot of ice to help give it a milkshake-like thickness without ice cream.
How to make an avocado matcha smoothie
Add the oat milk, ¼ avocado, oats, matcha, and agave to the blender, and puree until smooth. Let the blended mixture sit for five minutes.
Add more avocado (if you want) and the ice and blend again.
Helpful tips
- Before you start, check to see if your matcha is sweetened. If it is, don't add the agave nectar. You can always sweeten to taste after blending, but chances are you won't need to.
- Don't skip letting the blended mixture sit! It allows the blended oats to soften for the smoothest, creamiest result.
