    This chocolate green smoothie recipe is from the second edition of my cookbook, 40 Days of Green Smoothies.

    It's a rich, creamy, chocolatey, omnivore-approved glass of goodness. And there are totally greens in that glass!

    Chocolate Shake Green Smoothie

    This chocolate shake smoothie has an avocado and banana base that makes it extra creamy. Usually, my green smoothies use one or the other, but both gives it the thick, richness of a chocolate shake.

    You might be surprised that this green smoothie recipe also contains no added sugars. That's because the sweetness from the banana does the heavy lifting. It offsets the bitterness from both the cocoa powder and the greens in this recipe.

    Can you believe that one little banana can do all of that?

    This smoothie also gets a boost of protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids from the flax meal.

    Not too shabby for something you can sip on the go and tastes like a creamy, dreamy chocolate shake!

    Like most smoothies, making this recipe could not be simpler. Just toss everything into your blender, and puree until it's completely smooth.

    You don't need a high speed blender to make this smoothie, but it can help you get a smoother mix. If your blender isn't high speed, though, don't worry! You just need to blend a bit longer to get things totally creamy.

    Ingredients

    • ¼ Haas avocado - peeled, pitted, and chopped
    • 1 banana
    • 1 ½ tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 1 tablespoon flax meal
    • ¼ to ½ cup kale - ribs removed
    • 1 cup soy or almond milk
    • 4-5 ice cubes

    Instructions

    • Blend until smooth.

      My kind of smoothie, seriously! Healthy, filling, tasty, no fuss! I have similar ones for breakfast as well. Until I get tired of them. Then I'm back on oats. Until I get tired of them. Then I'm back on green smoothies ;-)
