I love cooking with matcha! I've got recipes for matcha brownies, matcha scones, matcha latte, matcha muffins, and a matcha smoothie. And today, I'm back with this super refreshing matcha lemonade recipe!
Matcha gives this slightly earthy/grassy flavor to lemonade that is absolutely addictive. This Starbucks matcha lemonade copycat is super simple to make. You can make one serving or multiply the recipe to serve a crowd.
A matcha whisk can help you combine the matcha powder into your drink, but a regular whisk or even a fork will also work fine. If you have a smaller whisk, use that.

✓ Ingredients and Substitutions
- matcha powder - Matcha green tea powder is the base for this recipe. Don't use tea leaves. You need the powder that dissolves in water. You can use ceremonial grade matcha, but you don't have to. Culinary grade matcha powder will also swork fine.
- hot water - To help the matcha dissolve.
- agave - This is your sweetener. You can use any sweetener of choice that you like, and you can use more, to taste, for a sweeter matcha lemonade.
- lemon juice - You can use lime juice instead for matcha limeade, if you want! Like the sweetener, you can add more, to taste, if you like.
- water and ice - For serving.
🔪 How to Make Matcha Lemonade

In a small bowl, whisk together the hot water, matcha, and agave nectar. Mix until the matcha is completely dissolved.

Add the water and lemon juice, and stir well. Then, taste and adjust the flavor, adding more agave and lemon juice by the teaspoon to reach your desired flavor.

Then, fill a glass with ice cubes, and pour the matcha lemonade over it. Serve immediately. I like to garnish with lemon slices to feel extra fancy!
💡 Helpful Tips
- Mixing the hot water, matcha powder, and agave first will allow the powder and sweetener to dissolve, so you have an even mixture. Don't add the cold water until your matcha-agave mixture is evenly combined.
- If you don't want too much matcha flavor coming through, adding more lemon and sweetener will help. My preferred ratio for this recipe is 1 teaspoon matcha powder, 4-5 teaspoons lemon, and a tablespoon (3 teaspoons) of agave nectar. The amounts listed in the recipe are a jumping off point!
- Don't add the matcha-lemon mixture to the cup of ice until you finish adjusting the flavor! It is much harder to get the agave to dissolve in cold liquid.
- You can multiply this recipe to make a whole pitcher of matcha lemonade and drink it all week long! Make as many servings as you like.

🫙 Storage Directions
You can drink this immediately or store for later. If you're storing, omit the ice until just before serving. I like to store this in a glass jar, so I can just shake it up, add ice, and sip right out of my serving container.
