Cherry Lemon Smoothie Popsicles are becoming a summer favorite in my house, and I think they will be in yours, too! You only need three ingredients to make them.
Guys, my kid is obsessed with lemonade. I try not to let him have sugary drinks in general (like a MONSTER), but he’s had lemonade a few times recently at birthday parties and at my mom’s wedding. He loves it. And I can’t blame him. Lemonade is delicious! But it’s also full of refined sugar. Cherry Lemon Smoothie Popsicles are my fruit-sweetened solution to our lemonade problem.

If he loves lemonade, why not just make fruit-sweetened lemonade? Why popsicles? I’m so glad that you asked! Unless you want to strain the finished product, fruit-sweetened lemonade is really more of a smoothie texture. It’s fine, but not what you picture when you think of lemonade. And straining takes out all of the fiber, leaving mostly sugar behind. Straining defeats the whole purpose of using fruit to sweeten these pops in the first place. Unstrained fruit-sweetened lemonade may not be great to sip, but it works great in a popsicle!
My Cherry Lemon Smoothie Popsicles are kid-tested. Darrol asks for them all the time, and I have fed them to his friends, who basically inhaled them. They don’t need to know that they’re secretly pretty healthy.
One note about this recipe: it’s refined sugar free, not sugar free. That means it’s not sweetened with white sugar or other refined sugars, but it does contain sugar from the bananas and frozen cherries. If you’re avoiding all sugar, this recipe is not for you. But if you are like me and are looking for whole-fruit sweetened treats, you’re going to love this recipe!
One last note: You will probably have about a half cup of leftover mix, after you fill your popsicle molds. You can either save this and freeze in a second round or drink it right now! I trust you to do the right thing.
Refined Sugar Free Cherry Lemon Smoothie Popsicles
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1 1/2 cups frozen cherries
- 1 banana
- 1 cup ice
- In your blender, puree the lemon juice, bananas, and cherries until you have as smooth a puree as you can get. You can add up to 1/4 cup water, as needed.
- Divide the lemon-cherry-banana mixture between six popsicle molds, and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
